A couple weeks ago I went to karaoke with some friends, a pretty fun night, and one of the songs we sang all together was of course a teenage classic of ours, 'A thousand miles'. The song has been coming up often ever since, with some of us singing it off the top of our heads from time to time; this happened today too during our hike to the Lion Rock peak, a steep walk up a tall hill which rewarded us with a mystical view of nothingness (we were surrounded by the white of clouds), and of course we also got soaked. It's been a nice and enjoyable experience anyway! The celebrations for the Chinese New Year are going on, but they are past the climax now, so I'm getting ready to start next semester!

Sometimes you need to take a few days more slowly, take your breath, and maybe you let a whole week pass by without posting... well, it didn't go so slow after all I guess! Then you have great Friday nights and Saturday nights when... well, let's say your mood swings, to use a euphemism. Letting people in is what makes your life better, but also what makes you vulnerable and sometimes make you feel like shit willy-nilly. Add stress onto it, and the picture is complete. Thanks goodness destiny sends to your path other people , that can help you get it out in a better way than you could do by yourself. Words are powerful. Remembering what is important is important. Hello dear readers, sorry for being away from the blog again, I’ve taken a 20-some hours trip to Milan to celebrate a friend’s birthday and I took the chance to say goodbye to some people I might not be seeing for a good amount of time. I can’t complain about goodbyes as the life I’ve chosen for myself in this time of my life is not one of stability, so goodbyes have to be part of the game! The idea of not having close people around might be hard, but as of now I am more excited and eager to go explore, meet new people and stuff! New music is on my to-do list too of course, but today it’s Sunday so it’s time to look back, and what better looking back than one of my favourite songs by the singer whose music was on my mind when I got up this morning?!

I have been following One Piece since it has been broadcasted on the Italian TV, translated and adapted (cartoons are for kids in the Western world, it's not like Japan...), but it hasn't been since a few years later, during the golden streaming era (we miss you, Megavideo) that I have started watching it in Japanese with subtitles. I have been starting over with it, and it's been a great journey! Now, given that I like to watch full sagas together so that I can understand something about the plot, I only take it on every two/three years or so. I just did now, as I need to catch up with the latest two sagas and well... maybe it's not as great as it used to be, but it's still quite enjoyable! It's the best anime around for a reason, isn't it? The soundtrack is a big part of its greatness too (this tune has just become my new cellphone ringtone, just sayin'...)!!

Today I spent a nice day at the pool with a friend from University who came to visit from Milan, the weather forecast was quite unstable and totally untrustworthy in the past few days, but the sky turned out to be painted with a great shade of blue and no clouds! Going back and forth on my father's car and while hanging out at the pool I have been listening to my 2000s favourites playlist (part 1) and of course I couldn't not pick something out of it for today's sundayrevival! (And yet I did, as this song is featured in the part 2). I picked this 2000 hit that the radios couldn't play often enough when it rocked the charts, and I never complained about listening to it, ever!

This afternoon I went back to the cinema after a long while since the last time, I quite enjoyed my time there! We watched Macbeth, a nice one (I didn't recall the plot of the original play by Shakespeare but while the movie went on, it occurred to me that I pretty much knew the main events), very enjoyable and intense photography, sometimes maybe a little heavy but not as much as I expected! A nice dinner after that and here I am, with a full stomach waiting for a new week to begin! It's simple days like these that give you the rapture, especially when everything seems to go right.

The year is coming to an end, I keep postponing things I have to do, but today I have been doing some of those I have indeed been postponing for quite a long time. Better close it off before the end of the year, right? One of the few things I'm not gonna be able to close off is posting all the nice songs that I have been cumulating in these last few weeks of 2015 and that are claiming a little space on the blog! One by one I hope I'll get to them all, so let's keep it up with Antony & the Johnsons, whose debut album I started listening to more than one month and half ago, but whose songs I still have in my playlists! I've been enjoying their debut quite a lot, and this is one of the last songs I came to appreciate, yet it ended up being one of my favourites! Divine!

As ANOHNI has just released her first single under her new "stage name", I keep on digging back into her discography with her band 'Antony & the Johnsons' and I keep getting much pleasure out of this, especially now that's winter outside and that her music fits so perfectly with the outside context and the environment. I am just getting ready to say goodbye to Veneto as my experience here is coming to an end (and I hope I won't have to return here to stay anytime soon, no offense!); I already said goodbye to the swimming pool and some other things, and I'm just two days away from being back home for good, and I must confess I am feeling very good about that!

I've been keeping Antony's discography on my computer for quite a long time after approaching his 2010 album 'Swanlights' a few years ago... lately I got to think back about their song 'Thank you for your love', during my last trip to Thailand, and so I put their debut album in my queue and got to listen to it. I think I'm gonna greatly enjoy it because, apart from sounding quite awesome, it matches perfectly the winter mood that is surrounding me now, pre-xmas but already dark, gloomy and cold. This song, I'm already in love with it and couldn't wait to share it with you all any longer!!

I have been waiting for the right moment to post this post for a long time, at least since July but probably since even before than that. I got to find again this song I remember from my childhood when I watched the well-renowned movie 'The beach' with Di Caprio, as the song is featured in the soundtrack. Given that I was orbiting around Thailand, I decided I would post it when I would get the chance to spend a weekend on the pure shores of southern Thailand, and finally this moment has come! Ok, I did not go to Phi Phi Islands where the movie was shot (yet), but being in Phuket was awesome enough. So awesome. I-wanna-leave-everything-behind-and-open-a-restaurant-there awesome. Really, it's not usual that experiences leave such a strong mark right when you're living them, so I can't really imagine what effect this weekend will have on me on the long term. Right now I am just cherishing the memories I got and being astonished by the fact that tomorrow I won't be on the beach. What I know is that I'll do my best to back there asap! Hello my dear people, here I am back again. Another tough trip back home and a tough weekend brought me to Milan, ready to wake up quite early tomorrow in the morning because I have to go back to Veneto. I am dead tired, plane travels and getting back home and having to drive there again... gosh, I don't know how I'm gonna make it. This whole working thing is getting it quite harsh on me, please take me back to university!
I meant to post this song last sunday, but I didn't get to write a post as (guess what?!) I was busy travelling! I'm gonna do it now: as last week (the one before this one that is ending) I got to listen to old, 2010 playlists, I ended up listening to a lot of PJ Harvey, as 2010 was the year when I got to know her and starting loving her music. So it seemed natural to just post a song of hers, and not just one random song of hers... I've been listening to her 'Stories from the city, stories from the sea' album quite a lot recently, and I'm falling more and more in love with the lyrics of many songs on the album, so meaningful for me right now, so true, I really feel a connection with them... so I hope you can enjoy this great music too!

Ok, in my defense I want to say that I didn't start this blog to post Britney Spears (and the kind) music. I haven't (almost never) done it so far. But sometimes it makes sense, and when you enjoy things and they don't harm anyone and they make sense, why not do them? At the end of our road trip, when we were crossing the last part of Switzerland before coming back to Italy, we ended up listening to Britney quite a bit (and then we moved to the opening songs of the cartoons they showed on TV when we were little!), especially to this one, which has never been among my favourites of hers (ok, now, I probably have 5 songs of hers and this is the one I like the least, let's put it like this), but I don't dislike it and in some circumstances, as I said already, it makes sense. I hope it can make sense to you today. Actually it's my last day off work, so going back tomorrow after 2 weeks it's gonna be hard! Maybe I need more trash pop music, maybe I need more Britney...!

Today I left Barcelona and came back. I'm specifically not saying back home because in all likelihood I'm gonna be moving again from here on Friday, back home, two weeks on transfer and then who-knows-where. Not that I was feeling particularly at home here in the residence where I spent the last month and a half, but after almost two months of running from one B&B to the next, it came as close to being a home as could be in this time of my life. It's peculiar, because in these last few days I spent in Barcelona I really felt at home, a local more than a tourist. Getting to the music: this song means the world to me, it's one of my overall favourite songs and the only one whose lyrics  ever considered tattooing (the idea came back to me strongly today). Now more than ever I need and would love to have a place called home, both literally and metaphorically. I hope things are going to settle soon, in the meanwhile I'll keep on running around Veneto until the right time comes (which I hope is going to happen before the summer!!) and be waiting for the one day when there'll be a place for us. A place called home.

You might remember that I have posted a song by Ludovico Einaudi a few days ago; that day, after his beautiful and soothing piano music, I turned to Enya's celtic folk, which worked as well. Today I started getting again a little bit of headache in the afternoon and so I put my earplugs back on and asked for a little Irish help, which was much needed and very effective once again! Because I can become a wild child even with the most relaxing music!!

Today is sunday and that means it's time for... sundayrevival!! I've had this song on my mind since yesterday and given that's it's quite old and it's on one of the first CDs I ever got (the then-so-fashionable compilations of early 00s), it really is a perfect song for this kind of posts! I have no idea why it came back to me now, I only know that it did. I have been singing it in my head and mumbling it while driving around northern Veneto with my parents this weekend, which has made a pretty nice trip for the weekend! The weekend itself seems to have lasted quite long, and that positive, so I hope I'll kick off the week of works with the right foot! Have a good nite and a great start of the new week!

What a monday, what a monday!!! What a crazy, excruciating, exhausting, unforgettable monday! You guys might not know that I had Anastacia's concert tonight, as I forgot to mention it due to the overwhelming greatness of 90s music I have been posting but well... I meant to post one last great 90s song to end the week, as I started on tuesday I realised, but tonight this is more compelling, so maybe I will do the last 90s piece tomorrow. Tonight it's about one of the most wearying concerts I ever had, probably the most demanding in terms of energies. Of course the first flu of the season struck before November, more precisely yesterday, and the friend who came with me to the concert was eager to get in front, so we went there early, then I went back and forth a couple time to get my sandwich ready and rest a while at home, just to get there definitively, endured through the wait and the opening band, and then she comes and... BANG. She had a cold too! Come on, just how freaky is that? I am in synchro with Anastacia! And we both wished we got a cold in a different moment. Well, I can't say I fully enjoyed the concert, as she let us sing a lot and she couldn't reach medium-to-high notes, so she practically didn't sing any refrain and stuff. That part, it was the main part, the main dish, the thing we all wanted to experience and it has been disappointing not to have it, also given the amount we paid for the ticket. Yet it has not been a bad experience, rather... I really enjoyed her most famous hits (and also the new songs) as her die-hard fans and us (a little less die-hard, but still fans) supplied our astounding singing skills to cover up for her lack of voice! I must say it's been emotional, also to see her almost cry when we were singing her songs by heart, it's been nice. I really hope I'll get the chance to enjoy her at her best (and also at my best, goddamn flu!), but my friend and me couldn't do without rocking it also in the car with our favourites, among which this is the one favourite of mine!!!

My goodness, so many things to post today! I woke up with a song in mind, than I listened to another one by the same singer that made sense too, then I found out about this one I'm posting and in the late afternoon I gave the first listen to an album by a singer I already knew and I went back to listen to a song of hers I knew already and wanted to post that one too! Anyway, hopefully the other girls are gonna find room in the next few days, but now I have to post the song that made my day!
First of all, happy birthday to Tori Amos, who turned 51 today (22 August, which is still in the US). Second of all, congrats to PJ Harvey for being awarded a honorary degree by Goldsmiths University, the ceremony will take place on the next 10th of September. And congrats to both for contributing to this awesomeness that took place during Tori's Lizard Lounge (her "cover set within the setlist" of this tour) in Durham!

Dear folks, today has been a quite hard day (for my feet)! We first had a Game-of-Thrones themed tour of Dubrovnik Old City with a nice guy who showed us where they shot all the scenes in the city and around the walls. It's been nice but very tiring, especially the climbing-the-walls part! Then, not having enough, we directed our steps (rather, our rudder) towards the island of Lokrum, where they shot some other scenes. Exploring the whole thing has been hard but satisfying! In the end we came back to the city, got a drink and had a few issues in deciding where to have dinner: we ended up in an Irish pub and this is where I got inspiration for this post, once again in the location of our dinner. I feel the need to post this song as it was stopped halfway through to let a guy with guitar start playing live.

Finallyyy! Mission completed! Last night karaoke it was! It's been very nice (my performances apart)! A very very cheerful night in a super small but very nice karaoke bar close to my home with some friends and it was all super nice (again, my singing apart). We had a very good time, at least I did! I really can't wait to do it again!
Soo for today I'm picking one of the songs that I "performed" last night. This was a duet with my dear very-well-able-to-sing-so-thanks-for-covering-me-up friend, and (even though we didn't remember how the song goes for the whole of it) it's been quite nice! Good (humiliating) memories that go in the back of my head together with the the lots that I already have! Still, I would probably dare say that Skye & friends's version is "a bit" better!
