This fine social scene - Zero 7

This fine social scene - Zero 7
Hello my dears, I am back from a 2-day trip to Guangzhou/Canton with friends, first time to Mainland China, super tiring but worth it! After a Sunday of morning rest, afternoon work and dinner out, I am ready to start a new week (am I?)! The year of cock, so let's also get ready for this Chinese New Year!! I'll leave you with a perfect tune for a chill end of the week, with vocals by Sia. Hope you enjoy!

I don't feel like dancin' - Scissor Sisters

I don't feel like dancin' - Scissor Sisters
Facebook just reminded me that 3 years ago me and my friend G. went to see Scissor Sisters play live in Milan and even got the chance to get a picture with the amazing diva Jake Shears!! Best memories of my times in Milan, I just had to play this song and dance like crazy to it in my room, even if I'm too old for this stuff and my breath can't keep up with my weirdo moves!! Doesn't matter, I'm enjoying my time and that's what is important! Cherishing memories is also something very precious for me at this time of my life, so I will indulge into Scissters music a little longer... hope you're having a good night: if you aren't, listen to this and it will become so; if you are, listen to this and it'll become a great night!

Everybody wants the same thing - Scissor Sisters

Everybody wants the same thing -
Scissor sisters
Today in the office there has been a lot of sharing of videos and revival of old songs and shows, stuff that happened even before I was born actually. When one of the videos started, the beginning sounded really similar to the beginning of this song to my ears, so I got the song stuck in my head for the whole day. It's not even one of my favourites from the Scissters, Ta-dah is their album I like the least methinks, there are just a few songs I really love on it, but I don't go crazy for the others. There are times when one or the other are just the right one, aren't day? 'Cos in the end, everybody wants the same thing!

Westbound - Lizzy Grant (a.k.a. May Jailer, a.k.a. Lana del Rey)

Today didn't start in the best way possible: the water plastic bottle I had in my consultant rucksack was faulty and poured a good amount of its content around. Result: flooded bag, including all the stuff that was inside (from pc to charger, from food to CDs and wires). I don't know how, but it seems like everything is working fine! Plus, I later realized I (of course) also flooded my shirt, pants and underpants with the water that was coming out from the rucksack. All of this in the small 2 minutes walk form the car to the office. Nice, ain't it? Thanks goodness I could hang all my stuff around to dry as the best housewives would, and I brought my rucksack back in the car to dry up (which worked perfectly, just to let you know how hot it is around here these days)! Anyway it looks like stuff about my future is moving up (again), now we'll have to see how long it takes for stuff to happen...! Anyway for now I'm not westbound as Lana in her song, yet I'm going to go so far away that east and west are kinda blurred, plus it isn't out the question that I'm just taking the long way west!

Birds of a feather - Lizzy Grant (a.k.a. Lana del Rey)

I meant to post this song a few days ago, but I couldn't find it on YouTube, so I decided to revert to Soundcloud, because I like it so much that I can't do without posting it and sharing it with you all! My time in Thailand is going on quite well, I'm enjoying it quite a lot and I can't wait to get the chance to stay here for a bit longer! In the meanwhile let's just enjoy May Jailer/Lana del Rey/Lizzy Grant! Click on the image title to listen to the song on Soundcloud!

Pride - Lizzy Grant
Back to work after almost a week, not easy but it could've been worse! Thanks goodness this is gonna be a short week, and then I'm gonna leave for a two-weeks visit to the firm where the project I'm working on will be implemented! Guess I will have to tell you something about my future soon, even though I don't know much about it myself! What I know is that in a couple of days I'm gonna be homeless again and I have no idea where I will be staying after I come back from those two weeks. Yay... Anyway, I'll leave you with Lana, hoping you can have a great evening and, hopefully, a more certain future than I do!

Primavera - Ludovico Einaudi

Primavera - Ludovico Einaudi
Yesterday at work I was feeling some kind of headache, probably because of too little sleep (ok, I know I am like an old man, but sleeping less than 8 hours per night leaves me worn out), so I was looking for some music that could soothe the aching and well, after seeing some Facebook friend posting Einaudi's music the night before, it sounded like a good idea, and it was. Primavera means springtime in Italian, which would also be appropriate for this time of year, in theory. In theory because it's freaking cold and rainy and depressing and everything, and I have a cold that I've been carrying around since xmas and I can't standing freaking more!! Let's hope that the real primavera is gonna come soon!!

#sundayrevival Last night - Lunik

Last night - Lunik
I don't have a seasonal bond with many albums, the ones I love the most, I usually listen to them any time of year. Ok, some moments may fit better than others, but feeling a push to listen to a certain album when a time of years comes happens to me... well, with only two albums. The first one is Dido's debut 'No angel', which usually calls me when winter is coming, and the other one, the one whose seasonal power is the strongest, is Lunik's best-of 'Lonely letters', which marks for me the beginning of spring! And while spending a nice day around the parks, woods and city center of Treviso under a not-too-hot, rather just-warm-enough, end-of-March sun and blue sky, Lunik were the perfect soundtrack for my wandering!! Spring has finally come for real (it appears, I'll keep my fingers crossed!), so it's time to listen to Lunik, who have been accompanying the coming of my springtimes since 2009 (that's why this post is a sundayrevival, as, even if theoretically this post is for saturday, technically it's sunday already)!

"Many things I'd like to know, how to choose which way to go.
Many things I'd like to see, what you do for getting free.
If I could fly away alone, like a bird out on my own
Would I stop feeling so lost? I will never know..."

Is it any wonder? - Keane

Is it any wonder? - Keane
Tonite I've seen ONE of my friends in my hometown for about an hour before she went to the movies with her "new" boyfriend, that I also met for the first time. Sometimes it feels that our fellowship is somehow breaking, we are all somehow spread around (but not that much actually) and it looks like we are never able to see each other these days... big changes ahead, as more or less we have all started working or will soon by now, and that will probably mean even more spreading around (me first). Tomorrow (well, actually today) I'll be moving near Venice for the beginning of my training: I'm not living this very well, as the town where the training is taking place is supposedly shitty, a Venice suburb where all the port and metalworkers are based, not exactly engaging for a hippie youngster like me, plus the course is supposed to be very technical (more than I need) and not-so-exciting, but I'm trying to look at the bigger picture, as I can't really wait to start a new adventure after that, getting a real job! Today I went to visit a couple of grandparents with my parents and while driving back home we got this song... I was about to say on the radio but that's not true, I got just the beginning of it while we were getting out of a textiles outlet we stopped in on the way! Well, anyway, it stuck in my head and it seemed a legit post, as I've been in love with it since it came out in the summer of 2006!

Tire swing - Kimya Dawson

Tire swing - Kimya Dawson
Seems like a great time to write my post! As usual, I have been working quite hard for my thesis! Now I'm waiting for a program to download and I have a few free moments, and here I am! But I didn't do only thesis today, I also went back swimming, even if my dear public pool in Milan increased its entry fee from 4€ to 6€, that's a lot and I think I'm gonna start going when I'm in Varese... anyway, it was great as soon as I entered the water, that feeling... then it was hard, as I haven't been properly training in the last few months, especially because of the bad weather and the missed open air swimming... I'll get back in fit soon! My thesis is looking good, database is practically finished, now I "only" have to make analysis on it! Yay! Can't wait! Will leave with another peculiar track, one that I thought I would post when I listened to it today. It's out of Juno's OST again, and after a few listens, when you get into it, it's quite... nicely peculiar!

Yr mangled heart - Gossip

Yr mangled heart - Gossip
I must thank Facebook for adding a feature that lets you check your pages directly on your home (nice thingy btw, thanks!), otherwise I would've probably forgot to post again. I'm very very busy with the last steps (hopefully) of the creation of my database(s) for my thesis, I say hopefully as I'm so into it that I can't stop and keep on adding data! Anyway now I'm almost done and this goal is quite ultimate, as I also really need to start working on my analysis of these data. I don't have much time to spend here, my database is waiting for me (yes, I know it's past 2.30 at night and tomorrow I need to go swimming before lunch, but I can't stop!). Today a vain trip around Milan as my interviewee ditched me, hope I'm gonna be able to reschedule! Great dinner with friends. Stop. Bye!
PS: Enjoy, great song!

Standing in the way of control - Gossip

Standing in the way of control -
Gossip
I'll start this post like I did with many others: this is not the song I planned to post today. Even more, I was sure I had already posted this one. But I just realised I didn't. Well, no problem, I'll make it up now. The worse thing is that I haven't posted any Gossip at all yet! Well... no problem again, making it up already. I'll just tell you a little bit of my relationship with them: as many of you out there I got to know them in the Heavy cross period and I grew a liking for them, I am in love with Music for Men, the album Heavy cross is on, but I never got to like a lot their previous albums. This song was the only exception and I got exposed to it again sooner this year in the office when I was working, so it got back into my head and, given the new level of maturity of my musical tastes, I decided to give another shot at least to the Standing in the way of control album. I'm doing it now and I'm not repenting at all. Yet I still haven't found anything that moves me (literally) as much as this one. And movement is particularly good while writing the thesis, as I'm seating all day long, so some convulse dancing time is always appreciated. I'm sure you would benefit some too!

On the radio - Regina Spektor

On the radio - Regina Spektor
So here we are, time for the second song I mentioned yesterday, one that has been going on in my head for the last few days. It's quite unusual, as typically I don't get Regina's song stuck in my head, even when I like them. The pace of most of her songs is quite irregular and they do not follow a clear pop-song structure, so that for many of them it's harder to find a catchy part to mumble under your breath. This is not a clear exception, but I keep singing the beginning of the chorus in the back of my head! I can't be helped, it's time for it and so I hope you like it too!

Things are getting more and more heated up with my thesis and I am quite excited about it! Today I had my first interview with the CEO of a New York-based startup wearing just my robe as, after I tried to call him a few times in vane, he called me back right after I stepped out of the shower! Well, it's been a fiery and rocky start, but I hope I handled it at my best and I have for sure learned how to handle my next interviews better (note to self: never shower again before thesis is completed)! Later I have been proof-reading what I have already written (more than halfway through) and I have been keeping on with contacting other people for new interviews, so I'm keeping myself real busy! But don't worry, there's always at least a little time for music (hey, come on, I'm writing my thesis on live music and I listen to music all the time while writing and researching, so there is a LOOOT of time for music in my days!!!) and for A song or two per day! Today I have a lovely lady keeping me company again with a great song I've been obsessing with in the last couple of days (come on, it's not hard to get obsessed with an obsessive song like this)!!

Maneater - Nelly Furtado

Maneater - Nelly Furtado
I am at Amsterdam Schipol, ready to travel back home, another nice trip has come to an end and I probably won't even have the time to relax (graduations, friends to meet, ...) before leaving again (in 5 days)! This summer is super weird, going from absolute nothingness and boredom to craziness and back again and again! Oh, I'm not complaining, but I kinda miss the old summers, when I got isolated from the whole world, staying at my grandma's with my cousins, playing games in the countryside, bathing, being young and free and careless! The summers like the one when this song was released, actually 2006 was one of the last ones of these... Anyway all this post just because I finally, finally found this album, Loose, at an affordable price here in Amsterdam and I bought it, together with a few others!! Can't stop buying CDs, can I? And people keep looking at me in a weird way when they learn I still buy CDs...!

Young folks - Peter, Bjorn & John

Young folks - Peter, Bjorn & John
Hello people! It's the last day of my internship and things are spiralling into craziness! Tonight there's gonna be a goodbye meeting, I still have to finish packing, tomorrow I'm gonna be in Bristol spending my day exploring the city (under the rain probably) and... woah, everything's messing up even inside me, I'm excited to get back home but at the same time sad 'cause I don't wanna leave the people from here... it's a very messy and exciting day, but I'm confident everything's gonna turn out just fine. Luckily enough under the musical point of view I'm not having many problems, there are still lots of songs I want to post! Here is today's, which actually I started listening to together with yesterday's, as I found out about them thanks to the office playlist. Hope you enjoy, I'll be back in a hopefully less stressful moment! Cheers!

Barely listening - Pilot Speed

Hi there! Time to celebrate, today the blog reached 1000 pageviews! Yay! Thank you all for this! I hope we'll get to celebrate more and more of these milestones!
The song I'm posting is one I've discovered last year thanks to my friend E. She directed me towards some Pilot Speed songs and I must say I really got to love some of them! I hope you'll enjoy this one too!

Wisemen - James Blunt

Wisemen - James Blunt
Today I was driving home with my playlist of my favourite songs from the 2000s in the background and I obviously decided I would pick one of them for my post of today. After a little bit of indecision I picked up one of the first songs whose lyrics I learned by heart, i.e. Wisemen. After the big boom of High and You're Beautiful, in spring 2006 James Blunt re-released the song and it was one of the hits of the following summer, besides being my favourite song of his.
