See you when you're 40 - Dido

See you when you're 40 - Dido
I don't know why, but I found myself listening to more and more Dido today, first only on the computer, than also with my ipod (and my new bluetooth earphones I got for my graduation!) walking in the streets of town and then cleaning home and finally also with my old ipod while having a quick shower! I still can't figure out what the trigger was, but I found myself having her song 'Go dreaming' in my head, and so it all started from there! I didn't even remember I posted a song of hers already a few days ago, and then I realised that I've been mainly focusing on her latest album, that is also my least favourite, and on her first album, which I love unconditionally. A love that is (almost) equally directed towards her second album, Life for rent, which I spent my whole teenage years listening to. I thus wanted to post 'I'm no angel' out of her debut, but I wanted to give some room to Life for rent more, and so here I am with See you when you're 40, a song that I remember I liked at the very beginning, then it kind of got lost just to be found again and fully understood and appreciated just in the last few years, to become one of the songs I love a lot (like, a lot!) on an album that I love a lot (like, a lot!). The song is about Dido struggling to end her relationship with a man she's attracted to but who is not good for her, up to the point when she finally decides that it's time to leave. Of course I didn't understand it fully when I was younger, I only loved the melody, but now I do and it's even more beautiful in my ears!

Girl who got away - Dido

Girl who got away - Dido
To celebrate the first post of this 2015 (late, of course, it wouldn't be me otherwise!) I decided to go back one more year instead, back to 2013. I mean, it was not an explicit decision, but my inspiration took me back there. I was skimming through my library for other new year's day-themed songs (besides U2's New Year day, that I posted one year ago already), and I was not very hopeful to find any. One of them was actually on Dido's latest album (taking away her best of), but it was the song on the album I like the least, and I don't count myself among the big fans of the album, so... it wasn't the right one. But given that I was on topic already, why not post something else from there, something I like way better? Girl who got away is the track also giving the title to the album, and its lyrics sounded like a good message to start the year, maybe a bit revisited!
In this new year I'm carrying with me old hopes and resolves, whose realization I keep putting my faith in, but also a great excitement for a new chapter of my life, whatever and wherever it will be... I wanna meet more interesting people, keep in contact with the ones I met already, do new things and especially visit new places!
If only for 2015 I wanna be the boy who got away, the one who took on a new path, the young man who had to become a little wilder.
If only for today I wanna be the girl who got away, the lover who really loved, the dancer who danced 'til the last dance.

Get some - Lykke Li

Get some - Lykke Li
Lykke just posted on Facebook her new song, quite nice I must say. This made me go back to her last album, which I've been listening to last year, and made me realise just how good it is and how much I like it! I didn't remember about it, but practically all the songs have left a good impression on me. It was a pleasure listening to it again and I'll be waiting for her next work! Move beyond I follow rivers guys, there's a lot of other good stuff behind the curtain!

#sundayrevival See the sun - Dido

See the sun - Dido
Today I spent a very beautiful sunny day with my "colleagues" (let's say friends) on Exmouth beach, playing volleyball with bare feet in the sand, under a timidly warm sun, lashed by a chilly wind (which brought gray and gloomy clouds in the end). Yet my face is a little bit burning, which is a thing I can only be grateful for: coming to England I was ready to face the worse and I didn't expect to get the chance to enjoy such spring-like weather (at least not so often). Thinking about the sun theme for my #sundayrevival, the first song that came to my mind was this and I think it is actually a perfect match: British singer, the chance to see the sun again, hope and expectations for the future while living in a pretty uncertain present... well that's me! And so it is, enjoy the sunshine (if you are so lucky to get some of it) and Dido and let's hope that summer is gonna come soon!

#sundayrevival May it be - Enya

May it be - Enya
It's sunday again! Time for another sunday revival! It's time to go about 10 years back in time, down to the time when the first Lord of the Rings movie was released. Since yesterday I've been trying to learn how to play this beautiful song by Enya that is part of the original soundtrack of the Fellowship of the Ring. I must confess that my harmonica playing doesn't even come close to the pleasantness of Enya's voice, but I am content anyway, especially having the perspective of improving a little bit with time! For the time being yet I will just leave you with the original and I'll save you from my harmonica cover! Have a merry sunday and a nice start of the new week!

Isobel - Dido

This is another song that I get really attached to in this time of year, when winter is approaching fast... actually it's the whole album that exercises an influence on me. It's one of the albums of my childhood, one that contains few of my all-time favourites. We go back to 1999 and I am talking about No angel, by Dido. This song is probably not the one I love the most on the album, but it is for sure the one that every november calls me, taps me on the shoulder and reminds me that it is there, with the whole album, for me to listen to and feel a little warmer in the cold winter. So, well... thanks Isobel for keeping me company this year too.

Made of glass - KT Tunstall

2013 has been pretty stingy with respect to brand new music for me... I personally have been pretty busy catching up with some older stuff and I didn't get the chance to explore widely what new offers were around. I dare say that probably the offer has not been very rich either, probably... just a lack both of demand and supply! Anyway, one of the few CDs from this year that I devoted a good amount of attention to is KT Tunstall's new Invisible Empire // Crescent Moon, and I must say that I didn't waste my time. Unlike the previous albums, her last work lacks practically any rock and dynamic sound; rather it is a very calm, easy-listening and atmosphere record. Nonetheless it is appreciable, even more in these times of heavy dance and disco everywhere. It never hurts to have a relaxing record for winter times! This is Made of Glass, the new single whose video has been released a few hours ago!

EDIT: The video is now regularly up! Cheers!
