Feed my fire - Amy MacDonald

Feed my fire - Amy MacDonald
4 albums behind her, Amy's musical strength (and maybe also her weakness) is for sure coherence: her sound hasn't changed much in 10 years of career, and, I'll never get tired of repeating it, with the current state of the pop music industry, finding somebody who is true to her sound and didn't sell her music to "cheap beats" is always appreciable. Of course people might criticise her, as her songs sound similar to each other, and I don't think that's deniable, but it doesn't prevent me from appreciating all her work, including the newly released 'Under stars', out of which this is one of my first favourites!

Dream on - Amy MacDonald

Dream on - Amy MacDonald
After a disappointing 2016, 2017 kicked off with a good start already. One of the reasons is Amy, who is coming out with a new album this year. Maybe over the years she failed to remain relevant to the international/European pop/rock scene, especially by failing to keep up with her huge debut 'This is the life', but one thing I really appreciate about her is that she hasn't changed her music recipe much over her first 10 years of career, remaining loyal to her folk-rock classic ballad style. One could say that her songs all sound alike, and I could buy that argument. I wouldn't go as far as saying this is a bad thing though, especially at a time like this when pop has become very much "electronified" and synthesised, with a lot of singers (and songs) sounding exactly like each other because of auto-tuning and heavy production. I am always happy when I realise that artists I like keep on doing what made me like them. Go on like this Amy!

#blogbirthday This is the life - Amy MacDonald

This is the life - Amy MacDonald
I am ashamed. I am deeply ashamed, but I have to live with it, it's a consequence of the life I'm leaving and one of the things that bothers me the most about it. I'm taking about how I forget things: I forget to put my slippers in the baggage, I forget my computer charger, I lose keys, I forget things, I lose control over stuff... and I hate it, as I didn't use to be like that. But I am paying the price for being too stressed out, and this includes missing important things, including the second birthday of the blog. My blog. My creature. The (probably) longest commitment of my life. Two years are a lot, and even I failed to post as often as the name of the blog itself suggests, especially in the past few months, I have given it all for 'A song or two per day', and what I got back is not at all disappointing! I am mostly doing it for myself, as I love sharing the music I like, and finding such great feedback was totally unexpected! I have tried a few complementary paths to share the music I love and I know that most of them were not really successful, but by trial and error I am doing my best to reach the widest audience possible and most importantly to engage other people in talking about great music and in giving each other inspiration and advice. So, here I am, late but not too late, thanks LinkedIn and the people on there for reminding me that I had a job anniversary, and I hope to be back in a little less than 12 months to celebrate the next birthday!
I am celebrating the 24 months of life of my blog with one of my favourite songs ever, which just got played in my car quite randomly, right after another Amy MacDonald song whose lyrics meant a lot for me now, but for such an important occasion I really want to share with you something that is dear to my heart, so here it is, from my heart to yours, 'This is the life' and I really wish for all of you that you know where you're gonna sleep tonight! (I know, but I don't know where I'm gonna sleep next week and the one after, so I guess that most of you are in a better place than me now)!!

#sundayrevival No roots - Amy MacDonald

No roots - Amy MacDonald
Well well, the time has finally come! I am in Wien as of now, where I just flew from Milan to get my connection flight to... Bangkok!!! First two weeks of transfer abroad for work, but it should become more permanent in the next few months!!! I am pretty excited, well... very excited!!! I couldn't wait to start a new adventure and, even if this one took quite a long time to begin, it seems like things are finally moving in the right direction! I'm here in Wien, with a little bit of fever throwback and with a bad headache, don't know why, so the conditions are not the best I could wish for... still, I'm so happy I'm finally getting away, even if just for a while! The "funny" thing is that I still don't have a home in Veneto for when I'll come back in two weeks, so I guess this really is the most "no-roots" moment of my life. I've always been really fond of this song, but having a roof over my head, I have never been able to sing it and mean it 100%. Now I can, and it doesn't feel all bad, I can tell you! Cheers to the world travellers and globe trotters!!

#sundayrevival An ordinary life - Amy MacDonald

An ordinary life - Amy MacDonald
You guys thought I didn't post yesterday because I was planning something special for today? I hope not, that would be too high an opinion of me...! As usual, I simply forgot to post and, as often as it happens, I always find it funny that I forget to post in the days that I spend at home, when I'm not doing anything special (and when I would have plenty of time to prepare a good post)!! Well... that's how the human brain works, or at least how mine works... nothing to be proud about! Anyway, it's (actually it was) sunday and so it's time for some song I've been in love with for a long time. I chose Amy MacDonald for this week's revival because I've been (randomly... rather, chronologically) listening to her in the car this past week and well... this song is particularly meaningful for me now. I'm starting to work, like working for real, with a wage and stuff. That's gonna happen on tuesday, so I'm already preparing my luggage and stuff to move back to Veneto. I hope this transition won't last too long, but it's too soon already to update you about what's waiting for me next! In the meanwhile I'll just leave you with these wise words by Amy! Happy new week to you all!

"I don't know where I'll be in ten years time
I want to be free
I don't care about the cameras
I don't care about the lights
All I wanted was an ordinary life"

Run - Amy MacDonald

Run - Amy MacDonald
This weekend I'm back home, with a little more light shed on my future! Next week is gonna be the last of my training near Venice, and after that... I have some plans for what is waiting for my ahead, just need to finalize things and I will hopefully update you soon enough! In the meanwhile... yesterday afternoon I picked up two girls with blablacar to share the trip back to Milan with me, and given that they were not very talkative, at one point I turned on the radio to keep myself awake and to make the journey more pleasant. After Edward Sharpe & the Magnetic Zeros, I opted for Alt-J, who also got appreciation by my crew! This morning I was driving around town with my father and when the playlist finished, the next one in alphabetical order started... wow, it's been a long long time since I've listened to Amy MacDonald, and noticing how old her debut album is... almost 10 years ago! It brought me back instantly to the last years of high school when she boomed with 'This is the life' and I got to know her and love her. Realizing that I knew many songs by heart made me feel good and really did bring back memories form those times, that seem like yesterday... but in fact so much time has passed and so many things have happened in the meantime! The feeling have not changed though, thanks goodness!

"I will run until my feet no longer run no more
And I will kiss until my lips no longer feel no more
And I will laugh until my heart it aches
And I will love until my heart it breaks
And I will love until there's nothing more to live for"

4th of July - Amy MacDonald

4th of July - Amy MacDonald
Ok, this post doesn't come unexpected (at all) I'd dare say, given that today is, well, the 4th of July! Happy Independence Day to all the US people out there! I have been planning this for quite a bit, let's say I already knew I would post this on a 07.04 post, as I have already done on Facebook last year and so on! Amy and this CD in particular have been my soundtrack two years ago, when I was just coming back from my exchange in Canada to enjoy Milan's nice anticipated summer in May (I might have told you that story already), and, well, this year I was planning to do the same after coming back to England. Actually, two years ago I still had exams to take and a thesis to write in little more than one month, while now I practically have nothing to do (a thesis due in December and that's it). The fact is that, ironically enough, I haven't been able to enjoy this time as much. Ok, I am (way) less stressed out, but so much less that I am bored to hell: everybody is having exams or internships going on and the weather sucks to the point that it seems like it's November... so here I am, nothing to do, no hanging out with friends, no sunbathing... well, happy (weird) 4th of July to you!

Left that body long ago - Amy MacDonald

Left that body long ago -
Amy MacDonald
So, here we are. When this is gonna be posted it means I'll have found a goodness-blessed internet connection while walking through Bristol or at the airport, ready to take my flight back. I am writing in advance because of course I will not have time in the crazy day that.. today is. (Wow, that sounds weird, I'm messing out with the temporal factor again!).
EDIT: [Actually not, I'm posting live now! I didn't take into account that I would go to sleep so late!]
Anyway, my British experience has ended (for now at least), and I must say it has been much better than I thought it would've been! Ok, I'm still kind of stuck with the sides of my life I was stuck in already before leaving, but this doesn't mean I enjoyed this beginning of 2014, rather... I really did! Especially thanks to the wonderful people that have shared these moments with me! Now it really does feel like the circle is closing and my student time is really going to come to an end very soon too...! I don't know if I'm ready for that, but I think it has already started happening, so I need to come to terms with it!
Anyway, it's weird how I just noticed this song now: first I have to say I really like it and its kind of sad tone and turning-the-page lyrics are matching quite well my current feelings. Moreover, I was listening to this album when I came back from Canada two years ago, so here we are! Circle is closed, let's turn the page and start a new chapter!
Thanks to all of you who made the last one a great and super enjoyable one!

Spark - Amy MacDonald

Spark - Amy MacDonald
Hello guys! Hope you are all well, I am a bit dizzy but overall ok. Last night I went to sleep earlier than usual to rest better and this morning I felt even worse, with swollen eyes and a confused mind. What got me through this hard morning has mainly been good music, I've been gladly getting lots of songs from my personal contribution to the office playlist and this really helped cheer myself up! One of the songs we got this morning (and also quite often lately) is this one, so I felt like posting it wouldn't hurt at all! Moreover I was listening to Amy two years ago too, when I was about to leave Canada and get back home from my exchange, so things kind of come back!

After the sun always comes the rain
Followed by hurt and pain
After the light comes the dark
After the love comes the breaking of my heart

L.A. - Amy MacDonald

Hey guys, I hope your weekend started well! Mine did, last night I've been out for drinks with some new fun and friendly colleagues! And in one of my first pub-nights in Exeter I got to listen one of Amy's songs, her most famous I'd dare say (This is the life). And this made me want to listen to her whole first album. Which I've been doing. And in the end, it came to my mind (again) why I love so much this (other) song!
