Angry angel - Imogen Heap

Angry angel - Imogen Heap
Hi guys, I've been away from the blog in the last few days due to a busy life and among submission deadlines, paper-reading, hiking and sea-bathing, social gathering (not ever enough of that) and so on, I often find myself at the end of the day exhausted and with no spare time, not even 10 minutes to sit down and write a stupid blog entry. I'm striving to find my own balance, to carve some me-time in my schedule, so hopefully I'll be able to get to write a bit more constantly than now, but perspectives are not best...! Anyway, this way I need to be more picky with the songs I choose to share with you. So there you get an angry angel!

Whatever - Imogen Heap

Whatever - Imogen Heap
I've been going back to old Imogen to refresh some of her debut tunes released on the 1998 iMegaphone (anagram of her name and also anticipation of the Apple rule of naming products?!). I had only listened to this album very superficially in the past, so I decided it deserved some more thorough attention, and I've been compensated already! This song is amazing, and it's not the only one... whatever!!

It's good to be in love - Frou Frou

It's good to be in love - Frou Frou
Today is another shameful day for my country: another edition of the "Family day" took place, this being an event where people manifest their unwillingness for other people to love each other and have their love recognized by the law. They also want to prevent other people from raising children just because they didn't procreate them. I don't want to explain here all my thoughts and my reasons why these ideas make me feel sick, I'll just tell you they do.
Today is also a very bright day for me! I have received news from one of the universities I have applied to that they selected me for a PhD program starting in September! I've been really really hoping for this to go right and it seems like it did! I'll keep you updated and give you more news about this in the future...!
Anyways all I want to do is to leave you with the following message:

It's good to be in love. With whoever and whatever you want. Love is never wrong when it makes people and things happy, and it usually does. Preventing other people from loving each other and caring for each other doesn't protect nor defend anyone, it's just a selfish excuse that people use to not try and understand how other people feel. Spread the love. Whatever kind of love. Because it's good to be in love.

Lifeline - Imogen Heap

Lifeline - Imogen Heap
After summing up the best picks of 2014, it's time to start with individual posting again! This song is from another very good album that was released last year, maybe without much spotlight, but it deserves some attention, especially as far as the creation phase is concerned. Imogen is now pregnant, so I don't expect she will be fully pursuing her music career anytime soon, but I would really love to get the chance to attend a concert of hers! In the meanwhile, let's just enjoy her latest record!

Run-time - Imogen Heap

Run-time - Imogen Heap
Minus 1 to graduation, anxietyyyyyy!!!! Ok, I'm processing all this anxiety that struck me yesterday, today has been quite long and wearing, I hope at least this will help me sleep a bit tonite. I still have to try my speech once more, as today I didn't have the time to. I can't wait to get done with tomorrow morning's event so that I can finally start this weekend of celebration and wash away all the doubts!! I hope I will have time to come and write how things will go during the weekend, otherwise... let's get the party started!

Cycle song - Imogen Heap

Cycle song - Imogen Heap
A couple years after the release of her album Ellipse in 2009 (wow, so much time ago?!) Imogen started off a project according to which she would record and share a song every three months, getting inspiration and background sounds from fans, so that in three years she would have had a 12-track album. The deadline shifted a bit and in the end not all the songs (at least as I recall) were created in this way, but many of them were and have been around for a few years now (e.g. Neglected space, which is still my favourite on the album, was released in 2011). It is always rewarding to follow such creative and innovative artists like Imogen, as in parallel to the development of great music they also develop interesting ideas on how to make music. Listening to the whole album, released a few weeks ago, is rewarding and positive since the beginning, also because I was already familiar with some of the songs on it. My reaction to the whole project is positive, kudos to Imogen and best of luck to her with her coming baby! This Cycle song has been written together with one of her sisters on the album, Climb to Sakteng, for the soundtrack of a documentary on Bhutan and was released last summer; it is one of my current favourites, I'm sure you'll enjoy it!

Neglected space - Imogen Heap

Neglected space - Imogen Heap
Ok, ok. I know this is not a fitting song for a thoughtless, carefree and cheerful friday night, rather... Neither is it a good song for the wonderful sunny day that today turned out to be here in the end. Yet it is one that made a lot of sense last night (it was already today actually) and I decided it would be my post. You already got an anticipation (on social network pages) with a quote pic, where I wrote my favourite lyrics of this song. What more to say?
This song is part of Imogen's project for her 4th album, in which she has been writing during the past 3 years (I believe) one song every three months, getting different kinds of inputs and inspiration from fans. The album is gonna be named Sparks (methinks) and should be distributed shortly (in a few weeks/months). This song was released in 2011, it was one of the first songs to be composed and, I must say, it's my favourite for the time being. The lyrics are just great and, supposing that not everybody will have a cheerful, carefree friday night (goodness knows how many thoughtful, depressing ones I've had), I think that some of you will be able to enjoy it anyway! Otherwise it might work as a hangover song tomorrow morning!

Hey everybody!
Great news for A song (or two) per day! The blog finally has its own Google+ page! Check it out at A song (or two) per day G+ page and make sure you follow so as you don't miss anything! It will also feature content exclusive to G+, so you don't really wanna miss it! The page is still in its building-up phase, so be patient if there's anything still not 100% working.
In the meantime enjoy one of my favourite instrumental songs, Canvas by the awesome Imogen Heap!

Special #2: Imogen Heap

Tonight I really feel the urge to do another special post. A few minutes ago I have been watching a couple of videos featuring one of the most inspiring and innovative artists (to me), i.e. Imogen Heap. She is very creative and I really like the way she tries to bring new life and new ideas into music, also thanks to her being outside the main music labels environment. In this particular video she is telling a little bit about the development of her musical gloves and showing a demo of their usage, followed by a song (Me the machine) she composed with them. The peculiarity of these gloves is that, according to the position and the movements of the person (singer usually) who wears them, they give you the possibility to play a whole lot of effects without needing any additional instrument + they also let you play with notes that you sing, such as holding them, making loops out of them and so on. I find this really brilliant and I wanted to share it, 'cos in my opinion it is really one of the ways in which music is going to evolve in the next future. Enjoy!
