Nobody - Mitski

Countdown to 2019: -5

Nobody - Mitski
2018 is coming to an end, leaving as legacy plenty of great music. Why not share one song per day in these last 5 days of the year? And what better place to do that than A song or two per day? These thoughts were going on in my head and brought me here to resurrect this blog, more than 1 year after the last post. It's been a long time, and I missed it, and I am sure the Facebook friends whose walls I have overloaded with music videos, also miss this blog as an alternative channel of distribution of my music taste! But here I am, back to my longest commitment, at the end of a year that has seen me go through ups and downs, keeping some challenging commitments and letting other go. Life is beautiful has become my mantra, and if you keep repeating something, you will start to believe it. Keep repeating it further and it will become true.
To a 2019 full of beautiful lives! In the meantime, you can just follow MItski's example, open the window to hear sounds of people, even if still nobody wants me, give me one good movie kiss and I'll be alright!

What happened to us? - Shura

What happened to us? - Shura
I'm already happy about buying my ticket for Clockeflap even if the festival hasn't started yet, as I have already got to know new, awesome music thanks to it! Shura is of course a big part of this and I really love this song, especially how it fits perfectly my life in this moment!!

You were somebody to me once
But now you're a fiction
Someone that I made up
Turns out it was too much for us
And if we met in five years, would we notice?

Funny how we remember things
How we hold on to the good
But throw out the bad stuff
What happened to us?

I was never ready for your love
No, I'm no child but I don't feel grown up
I was never ready, it was never meant to be
So tell me how come I still feel so messed up

Hope there's someone - Antony + the Johnsons

Hope there's someone - Antony + the Johson
"Hope there's someone who'll set my heart free, nice to hold when I'm tired" sings Antony in her homonymous 2005 EP, and how could we say her request doesn't make sense? We all are looking for that someone special who will set our heart free, who will take care of us when we die (and hopefully while we are alive, even more so!), who will change our life, who can help us through our darkest times and enjoy the good ones with us. Aren't we? The search is hard for most... the ones among you who have found that person(s), cherish your moments with them! And let's hope we will all get the chance to spend some great time with our special people!

#sundayrevival Up there down there - Patti Smith

Up there down there - Patti Smith
"Up there there's a ball of fire, some call it the spirit, some call it the sun..." These are the first words that I can recall after waking up this morning. No idea where they came from and what it was that I was thinking which brought me there, but something did! A Patti Smith classic and a favourite of mine since I went through her discography, sounds like a great tune for this Sunday! Lunch is done and I'm heading downtown for some shopping and strolling around, hoping that the rays of sun and flashes of blue sky I've seen sooner will stick around a bit longer!! I really wouldn't mind enjoying the ball of fire up there, whatever you may call it!

Young fashioned ways - Koko Taylor

Young fashioned ways - Koko Taylor
Two years before dying at the remarkable age of 81, Koko Taylor sang "I may be getting older but I've got young fashioned ways"! I mean... wow! I already feel old at 26, actually I've been feeling old since I can remember. I have always bonded better with adults when I was a kid, I disliked a good bunch of people my age during teenage years as they were doing stupid things, now my body is mostly broken... and I'm lazy, I'm not a party animal, I live well in my own little corner of the world (except when I often take up my bag and travel around the other corners of the world). What I'm trying to say is that I've never felt like I've got young fashioned ways, even if it feels a tiny little bit like I'm living my teenage now, with a little delay...! In the end, being old or young, feeling young or old, each one of us has their own way of living life and looks for different things so as to be happy, don't we?

Chemo limo - Regina Spektor

Chemo limo - Regina Spektor
'Soviet kitsch' is doubtlessly my favourite album by Regina Spektor and today, while walking through the streets of Vilnius in the late afternoon, tired after exploring the town and searching for a sunny spot where to lay and rest, I turned on my iPod for the first time since I had got out in the morning and, don't know why, I decided to listen to Regina and to this album. Sitting on a bench in the sun, distractedly looking at people passing by, I paid particular attention to the lyrics of the songs (a thing I don't often do) and realised once more how beautiful this album is indeed. This song is one of my favourites off it and the one I deem most representative of the album and its spirit. In a few words, it's a masterpiece. It is.

#sundayrevival Somebody's down somebody's name - PJ Harvey

Somebody's down somebody's name -
PJ Harvey
Even if this is one of my favourite PJ songs, a b-side of the 'To bring you my love' era, I never really understood the meaning of its title. What does that mean? According to the lyrics, it would seem to me like somebody has been shot down, but what is somebody's name? Or is it something like somebody going under somebody's name? Well, I am utterly confused by that, but the music and other lyrics of the songs are so enchanting that I can't help feeling totally wrapped in its guitar loops each and every single time. Well, if any of you English mother-tongues (or else) can help me figure this one out, I'd be forever grateful!

Disappear - R.E.M.

Disappear - R.E.M.
"There is a calm I haven't come to yet
I spend half my life figuring what comes next
I telescoped in
I'll finally win
I'll finally win the prize
That now eyes see
A comic's perfect timing squeezed.
I'm head-first fighting everything
The crushing force of memory
Erasing all I've been
The vanishing point appears."

After many many hours of travelling I'm finally home, I took a nap, had a quick dinner and a hot bath and now I'm almost ready to get to sleep. I've not been feeling well since the flight back from America, as I've been writing before, and now I feel pain in my head when I turn it and look sideways, and the usual symptoms of fever (cold hands and stuff). I really hope I'm gonna get better soon, as my life is rapidly entering a spiral of important events! I'll just tell you that (if nothing goes wrong) I'm gonna be on a plane again on monday! Life aside, I was uncertain whether to play some music while having my bath, and when I decided not to, I plugged in the radio! Then after a quick look at my CD library my eye fell on R.E.M.'s Reveal and the song I'll take the rain came to my mind, I decided to play it in shuffle mode (and of course it was the first one to play)! The one that touched me more strongly this time though has been Disappear, another favourite from the album! The lyrics are quite meaningful for me now, I hope they resound in you too!

"I looked for you and everywhere.
I looked for you and everywhere.
Tell me why you're here.
I came to disappear."
