Wish that you were here - Florence + the Machine

Wish that you were here -
Florence + the Machine
Finally today I've been able to take a day off, off working, off papers, off school, off this life that has been consuming me for almost two months without giving me almost any room for breathing! Well, I confess... I read half a paper on the beach. Just to keep up the rhythm. But I was on the beach, come on! Thanks goodness this weekend has been good and I've been able to somehow find a good balance between duty of work and duty of keeping myself sane! Given that I've been devoting most of my time, day and night, weekdays and weekends to papers and assignments and lectures and stuff, I don't feel guilty in taking some time for myself. And I'm actually feeling good about being able to manage it all without going crazy or paranoid! Then we went to the movies and we ended up watching the latest Tim Burton's movie, for which Florence wrote this song (it's been nice). Could I post anything else on the blog? Of course not!

Move me - Lemolo

Move me - Lemolo
After a movies night with friends I am back home, it's not been a particularly significant day, just one of these good days spent with the people who matter. Some things are coming up in my life and the time to kill before the next big move is getting shorter and shorter, I am ready and willing to move on with my life, it's been nice hanging out and doing things for a while but I need some purpose, some bigger scheme to be a part of, some objectives, something to do, somethings that is going to MOVE ME and soon enough I should have it back! Can't wait, but at the same I am willing to enjoy at best the free time I have left!

Sugar mountain - Neil Young

Sugar mountain - Neil Young
Hey guys, sorry for not posting anything new yesterday, but the day has been quite full and it ended with a 3-hour movie that ended very late, plus I was too emotionally involved with it and with the song that made me watch it that I couldn't find the strength inside of me to write about something else. The movie is 'Blue is the warmest colour' and I think it's worth all the time spent watching it, I really liked it, especially how the director has been able to make the characters' feelings pass through the camera and the screen and get to the viewer. The song that made me know the film is Alt-J's 'Nara', a beautiful masterpiece that I've been able to appreciate more and more last year to the point that it has probably become my favourite song of theirs. I've been listening to a lot of Alt-J today, but I'm posting something else because... of no reason in particular.
I am finally starting to get towards the middle of Neil Young's discography and listening to his (first?) collection 'Decade' I found a few songs I really like, this being one of them!

#sundayrevival Pure shores - All saints

Pure shores - All saints
I have been waiting for the right moment to post this post for a long time, at least since July but probably since even before than that. I got to find again this song I remember from my childhood when I watched the well-renowned movie 'The beach' with Di Caprio, as the song is featured in the soundtrack. Given that I was orbiting around Thailand, I decided I would post it when I would get the chance to spend a weekend on the pure shores of southern Thailand, and finally this moment has come! Ok, I did not go to Phi Phi Islands where the movie was shot (yet), but being in Phuket was awesome enough. So awesome. I-wanna-leave-everything-behind-and-open-a-restaurant-there awesome. Really, it's not usual that experiences leave such a strong mark right when you're living them, so I can't really imagine what effect this weekend will have on me on the long term. Right now I am just cherishing the memories I got and being astonished by the fact that tomorrow I won't be on the beach. What I know is that I'll do my best to back there asap! Have a good new week you all!

Porno - Arcade Fire

Porno - Arcade Fire
I had already started writing my post for another song, then I saw on my Fb wall that AF's Reflktor-soundtracked movie is about to be released in theatres and that they released a video out of it for Porno, and given that I hadn't posted the song yet and that Reflektor was one of my (if not the) favourite albums released in 2013, it seems like the timing for posting it is perfect!! Even more so thinking about the fact that I have been mentioning Montréal quite often lately and that a weird willingness to go back there in Canada after quite a few years already is getting stronger these days...! Who knows...?! Travelling is so easy these days! It just takes a song to start the journey already...

Love me like you do - Ellie Goulding

Love me like you do
It's time for me to leave again: tomorrow night I'm flying back to Italy, but I hope I will be back to Bangkok soon (and come to stay)! The first experience with the city has been... intense. Under every point of view. So many things to do, so much traffic, so many people, so much struggling with the language, so many places to see, so many foods to eat... it's just a lot, and it takes a while to figure it out! I think it's good having a first taste like this and having a little time to process it all (just a little time, as I was just starting to get into the swing of things!) and come back better prepared! I confess haven't been listening to much music in the last couple of weeks, but this is one of the songs I listened to most often, and of course I had listened to it quite often before too, it was impossible not to know it! And yes, no, I haven't watched 50 shades of gray yet, when I'll have a night time to throw away I'll surely do!!

Far away - Junip

Far away - Junip
Last night I finally got to watch the 'Walter Mitty' movie by Ben Stiller, after many people have been suggesting I should give it a try. I have not been disappointed, as I really could identify with the main character and the story, even if maybe (hopefully) my life is not as extremely gray as his. I have been a little bit dazed by the non-sense of the whole story (SPOILER: why did the photograph guy leave clues for him if the picture has been in his wallet the whole time?! I can't really make that out...) and, well, by the fact that it gets a little bit predictable, the not-so-unique feel-good American style movie. Nonetheless it's quite enjoyable and it really conveys the powerful message that you should do something meaningful in your (real) life. Plus, the soundtrack is really great: Arcade Fire, Of Monsters & Men, and then Josè Gonzales, who I've been suggested a couple weeks ago, and its band Junip, both of which I've been greatly enjoying. This song in particular and the scene it is featured in have made me fall in love, so kudos to Stiller for the movie and to Junip for the music!! Tomorrow it's gonna be my own turn to go far far away, so I guess you're finally gonna get that update about my life! In the meanwhile enjoy your saturday night!

The hanging tree - Jennifer Lawrence

Three fingers kissing the mouth and being raised. Four notes whistled. One more mumbled. Mmmmmh. "I’m a princess cut from marble, smoother than a storm..."

The hanging tree - Jennifer Lawrence
Rings a bell? Well, if not... I have been to the cinema tonite to watch Hunger Games n°3, i.e. Mockingjay part 1. I'm still recovering from the experience, listening to Yellow flicker beat on repeat, trying to match Lorde's notes (and failing). But the one thing that struck me the most is this one I'm posting now. I had watched a few friends posting it on Facebook in the past days, but I didn't check it out as I didn't want to ruin the surprise for myself. And well I did. The scene with Katniss singing this song is quite amazing and powerful, probably one of the best in the whole movie (which, let's say it, is not so full of meaningful action and doesn't make much sense watched without the second part, which is going to come next year). I remembered this song from when I read the books sooner this year, but for sure it got a new power on screen. I'll post it here for you, but if you haven't watched the movie yet and are going to, I suggest you don't listen to it now, rather go watch the movie and then listen to it (on repeat).
Because if you enter the room singing Yellow flicker beat in your head, you'll come out of it singing this one. (Well, maybe both)!

Tire swing - Kimya Dawson

Tire swing - Kimya Dawson
Seems like a great time to write my post! As usual, I have been working quite hard for my thesis! Now I'm waiting for a program to download and I have a few free moments, and here I am! But I didn't do only thesis today, I also went back swimming, even if my dear public pool in Milan increased its entry fee from 4€ to 6€, that's a lot and I think I'm gonna start going when I'm in Varese... anyway, it was great as soon as I entered the water, that feeling... then it was hard, as I haven't been properly training in the last few months, especially because of the bad weather and the missed open air swimming... I'll get back in fit soon! My thesis is looking good, database is practically finished, now I "only" have to make analysis on it! Yay! Can't wait! Will leave with another peculiar track, one that I thought I would post when I listened to it today. It's out of Juno's OST again, and after a few listens, when you get into it, it's quite... nicely peculiar!

Words (between the lines of age) - Neil Young

Words (between the lines of age) - Neil Young
I'll start off this post by stating that this is not the song I meant to post for today, it has not been until like 2 minutes ago. It's not something new anyway. I was planning to start posting the first highlights out of the new shift of stuff I'm listening to, but well... I decided not to. Funny thing, one of Neil Young's albums is part of this new shift, ok it's the last thing I've started listening to and I haven't familiarized with any songs yet, anyway... I was watching a series of short movies and the last one I've seen (Lucky Blue) was about a kind of romance growing between two teenagers in the context of a touring karaoke act. In a very romantic open air environment, with the stage filled with light bulbs and couples dancing together, one of the two guys start singing that song that goes "Words don't come easy to me...", I love you but this is the only way I'm able to tell you and so on like this. I'm not posting that one, yet it made me think of another "Words" song, which is the exact reason why I'm posting this now!

All I want is you - Barry Louis Polisar

All I want is you - Barry Louis Polisar
I hope you have seen my latest quotes picture on my Facebook or Google+ pages, I am quite proud of it (so to say) and I really felt the need to make it. I have been watching Juno tonight and the soundtrack of the movie really reminded me of John's Song by San Cisco, so I went on to listen to the song and, eventually, to the whole album! Having posted that masterpiece of simplicity already, it just makes sense to draw from Juno OST! I must confess there is no song that struck me particularly, but all of them together made a quite homogeneous and sensible set, in tune with the environment of the movie. Being forced to choose one, I'd get the opening track, the one that gave the start to everything!
