Morenita (live on KEXP) - Sotomayor

Morenita (live on KEXP) - Sotomayor
I don't think I need a further reason to share this song besides the (genius) band name, but well... I'm gonna give a couple: they have been playing live on KEXP, which is most often a guarantee of great music, and, well... their music is indeed great! I have fallen in love with a couple songs off their KEXP performance in particular, and after listening to their debut album, I would even dare say that the live sound is even better! So that's what I'm sharing with you, and if you think that chill-out / electronic music with a Mexican taste isn't for you, well... think again!

Move me - Lemolo

Move me - Lemolo
After a movies night with friends I am back home, it's not been a particularly significant day, just one of these good days spent with the people who matter. Some things are coming up in my life and the time to kill before the next big move is getting shorter and shorter, I am ready and willing to move on with my life, it's been nice hanging out and doing things for a while but I need some purpose, some bigger scheme to be a part of, some objectives, something to do, somethings that is going to MOVE ME and soon enough I should have it back! Can't wait, but at the same I am willing to enjoy at best the free time I have left!

Feel you - Julia Holter

Feel you - Julia Holter
Among the big amount of new music I've been approaching lately is Julia Holter, yet another artist I have discovered thanks to KEXP radio live videos. Listening to her latest album, released last year, I must confess I have not been immediately stricken by her music, which is kind of ethereal and easy to get lost into. Nonetheless after a few listens I have been able to enjoy a few more songs of hers, even though I don't know if I am going on to deepen my knowledge of her music soon. What I can tell you is that for sure there are a few songs worth listening, and this is one of the most accessible ones!!

Low halo (live on KEXP) - Lemolo

Low halo (live on KEXP) - Lemolo
Once again I have to thank KEXP for getting me to know new artists: this time it's Lemolo's turn, they have immediately fascinated me with this beautiful song that they played live at the beginning of their recent visit to the Seattle-based radio. I guess you're gonna be seeing more of them here on the blog soon. I am writing now after a very long and very full but satisfying day: after waking up early, writing a couple of e-mails, talking on the phone with another university I have applied to, seeing a friend of mine get her Italian citizenship (she's from Albania but has lived here since she was like 2 years old), then a medical test, talking with somebody, back home for a shower, train to Milan, a dear friend's birthday and here I am! Hope I'm gonna take it easier tomorrow, but I already have some shopping, an aperitivo and a dinner planned... Milan stresses me out but I can't say I don't love how it fills up my life!

Without you (live on KEXP) - Junip

Without you - Junip
The year has almost come to an end and I wanna take a further chance to post music by what has been my favourite new discovery of 2015, i.e. Junip. After finally watching the Walter Mitty movie after people had been suggesting I should watch it for quite a while, I have been enchanted by their debut album 'Fields', both the album itself and the CD2, which practically consists of a couple of their previous EPs. I cannot recommend them enough, I can't wait to listen to their newer album released in 2013 and then finally start to approach Jose Gonzales's solo music. This last Junip post of 2015 is 'Without you', a beautiful, beautiful song off the CD1 of 'Fields'; I chose for you an astounding performance live on KEXP, so that I take another chance to thank the guys who work there and give us the opportunity to enjoy such great performances of live music! Go on and listen to it now, before it's too late!!!

#liveweek Fitzpleasure - ∆ (Alt-J)

Fitzpleasure - ∆
Here I am again, double posting for today to make up for my lack of yesterday! We can do it! Soo, I think it was pretty much inevitable for me to include some KEXP recordings in this #liveweek, as the Seattle-based radio station is a big big inspiration and source of new (and not-so-new) great music for me! I cannot be enough thankful to them for the great work they make, making videos of great live performances by great artists available on YouTube, so the least I can do is advertise them a little bit! What they did with ∆ was a bit different from their usual recordings, which consist of interviews and intimate live performances; nonetheless the result is, as usual, great and I'm particularly in love with this version of Fitzpleasure, so I hope you all can enjoy it together with me!

Free the skull (live on KEXP) - Moon Duo

Free the skull (live on KEXP) - Moon Duo
I found out about these guys a few weeks ago on KEXP and I have immediately fallen under the spell of this song, its melody is enchanting! I have not been as taken by the rest of the album, which I've listened to on Spotify, but maybe I will give them more of my attention in the future... as of now I have way too much music in my queue! That won't prevent me from enjoying some good random tunes every now and then, so I guess you can give it a try too! Cheers to KEXP for this other very nice thumbs-up, keep it up Cheryl!

Moon - Foals

Moon (live at KEXP) - Foals
I was already more than halfway through posting another song (right after not wanting to post today/night and then changing my mind, because it doesn't make sense to have a personal blog and not to write anything on it the nights you find yourself seating in your car, staring at the moon and thinking about the meaning of life! Ok, then I went on to listen to this song on repeat three times laying on my bed in the dark AND also going to listen to the song that I'm gonna post (I was gonna say tomorrow but I'm forgetting that tonite was not saturday, saturday is now, so tomorrow would actually be correct!) for the sunday revival post! Loads of inspiration tonight, as I finally started finding some life in Veneto, there are bars, there are people who are outside at night! I've finally been a witness of that! And then there's people (like me) who even when they go out in the "nightlife" (and maybe even more so), then get back home and start thinking about the meaning of life, staring at the beautiful, beautiful night sky! Of course with a most appropriate soundtrack, as this one is! Especially in this beautiful live version on KEXP I just found out about!

Out alee - Hundred Waters

Out alee - Hundred Waters
I already introduced you to Hundred Waters last week with Down from the drafters! This is its sister song (for me), as they are the couple of songs which made me notice them and then fall in love with them (thanks again, KEXP)! Seeing them as twin brothers, I'd say Out alee is the first-born, as it's the first song of theirs I ever listened to. Anyway these two songs are so coming together in my mind that they are the opener and the closer of both my August playlists (KEXP versions on the first and, inverted, original album versions on the second). If you missed the other post (or if you didn't), by any chance go check this out and you won't be disappointed!

Down from the rafters (live on KEXP) - Hundred Waters

Down by the rafters (live on KEXP) - Hundred Waters
Tomorrow (actually today) I'm leaving for the mountains to spend Ferragosto (15th of August, it is a holiday in Italy, actually the one I hate the most as cities get empty, everything is closed and going away is super expensive and all the vacation-places are awfully crowded) with my grandparents. I'm not gonna have any Internet there (even though I might be able to use an Internet key, we'll see) and I didn't prepare any posts in advance, so we'll see if I'm gonna (a bit forcefully) take the first voluntary gap in the life of the blog (it's mid-August anyway, I think you all have better things to do than waste time reading my posts) or if I'm gonna be able to keep posting!

For now let's enjoy the present! I've been willing to post Hundred Waters since I discovered them by chance thanks to KEXP a few days ago. This is one of my two current favourite songs of them, really love it! Hope you'll enjoy!

Tessellate (live on KEXP) - Alt-J

Tessellate (live on KEXP) - Alt-J
Here we are, ready to leave again and I didn't even realise it! Tomorrow I'm leaving for another trip, a last-minute one but I'm confident it's gonna be a pretty nice one! I'm gonna go visit an undergrad friend in Amsterdam, the only city in my "to-view in Europe" list that I'm still missing (actually there are a couple of new entries, but let's not get too picky...!) and that I'm gonna see very soon! It's quite of an achievement for me, I've been waiting for it for years! And I can't wait to meet my friend too, we haven't been seeing each other for almost two years now, it's gonna be good! The problem is that I'm realising just now I have to leave soon, so today I'll have to prepare something for the next few days. But I have to actually find something for today too... and I'm picking something I really enjoyed yesterday while I was tidying up my room, a live performance from KEXP embellished by the live introduction (Ripe & Ruin).

Never gonna love again (live on KEXP) - Lykke Li

Never gonna love again (live on KEXP) -
Lykke Li
Hello people, another shitty day here in Milan, damn rain! Yesterday has been a crazily intense day, filled with two big events in Milan: the gay pride and the One Direction concert! I have been hanging out with some friends at the beginning of the parade and, well, while I was going back to the center to meet my friend coming from England I was surrounded by teenagers with their headbands and posters and stuff... it didn't feel that good! Jokes apart, I have been going back and forth from one group of friends to the next, but I managed well I think, had a nice aperitivo, a not-so-peaceful quick nap and then went out clubbing until, well... the sky was turning light blue again! Now I'm ready to start another day in the city as a tourist, let's hope it's not gonna pour down water like on Noah's ark! The song I chose for today, another great one out of Lykke's latest album, fits well the weather of today methinks! I chose once again a KEXP live over the album version as I like it better.

I never learn (live on KEXP) - Lykke Li

I never learn (live on KEXP) - Lykke Li
Yesterday I was finally able to create a new playlist (I wanted to wait for the new month to come) and, even if the songs are coming mostly from the same singers and albums as last month's, it's still something new! One of the news in here is a couple of acoustic songs by Lykke Li she performed on KEXP: one of them is No rest for the wicked, which I already posted and love very much. The other one is this one, a song I'm quickly falling in love with too. It is the title track of her new album that came out a few days ago and it's a heart-rending ode to never learning from the past and always making the same mistakes. Which makes us human, in a way.
Moreover in the last nights I've been watching Nymphomaniac, the movie by Lars von Trier and the mal de vivre atmosphere created in the movie fits very well Lykke Li's music, so what better than that? A happy depressing new week to you all!

Silent my song - Lykke Li

Silent my song - Lykke Li
So, here we are! I'm late again, my bad. But I'm making it up! This is a post I already had in mind yesterday: I wanted to post something by Lykke Li, as I've been listening/watching her new performance on KEXP (go check it out here) and I loved it. Given that I haven't listened to (the whole of) her new album yet, it made sense to post a song from her previous work. I had a couple of others in mind, but then, after listening to all of them, this is the one that stuck in my head and it is the one I'm posting for you now.

Funny fact: I was just about to start writing this post when I heard the song playing in my aunt's room. I thought it was like the soundtrack of the movie she is watching and it would've been the weirdest of coincidences!! She was just listening to it via a video I posted on Facebook instead. Life is weird!

Hey now (live on KEXP) - London Grammar

London Grammar are my most recent discovery: I have heard them being mentioned here and there lately but I wasn't able to find their album. Yet, I found a performance of them on KEXP (goodness bless them and their radio) and I was, together with the radio host, stunned with my jaw wide open after the first song, Hey now, which I'm featuring here now. Be careful with your jaws when you listen!
